Electronic newsletters increase nearly six-fold in five years. Online and e-mail newsletters increased from 1,053 to 6,055 in the past five years, while print-only newsletters declined by 43% from 7,395 to 4,180, according to the Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters 2009 edition, released last week. The number of newsletters available in print and electronic formats remained about the same, going from 4,859 to 4,949. The 2009 edition reported a total of 15,343 newsletters compared with 13,197 in 2004. Year-to-year, online and e-mail newsletters increased from 5,485 in 2008 to 2009’s 6,055, while print-only newsletters declined from 4,873 in 2008 to 4,180 in 2009. Legal newsletters continue to be the largest category of the publications, with 1,212 in 2009.
